7-10 years old
These classes will encourage kids to have a deeper understanding of body awareness and communication in a non-competitive atmosphere. The class is designed to be fun, challenging, and creative, and kids will learn the art of yoga through a series of flowing sequences, games, breathing exercises, partnering, and creative play.
10-13 years old (girl’s class)
Girls whose minds are expanding and maturing will appreciate this class for middle schoolers. With more focus on traditional poses, students will build self-confidence and strength through energizing yoga sequences, breathing exercises, and deep relaxation.
About The Instructor:
Mary Bailey’s yoga journey began about 4 years ago at The Center. On a whim she decided to go to a yoga class as a means to strengthen her mind and body. She has been a dedicated yogi ever since. In the Fall of 2008 Mary’s yoga practiced deepened both on and off the mat when she spent a semester at the Kripalu institute for Yoga and Health taking part in their Semester Intensive. While this program was not a yoga teacher training, it was an opportunity to live in community with 35 other college age yogi’s and truly experience what living yogically means. During the semester intensive Mary had the blessing to learn from and create relationships with such teachers as ‘Shobhan’ Richard Faulds, Noah Levine, and Stephen Cope among many other blessed and inspiring teachers. Directly following the Semester Intensive Mary began her teaching training with Jill Satterfield and Vajra Yoga in New York City. Vajra Yoga is a beautiful style of yoga developed by Jill Satterfield that intentionally blends Buddhist Mindfulness Meditation (Vipassana) with yoga asana. Mary completed her training in December of 2009. While not doing yoga Mary is a full-time student. She just completed a Bachelors degree in Philosophy and Religion from James Madison University, and in the Fall will start in the nursing program at Emory University where she hopes to further explore the mind-body connection. And for a week in 2009, Mary taught yoga to over 50 energetic and beautiful children at the JMU Ghandi Summer Camp for Peace.
